Meet Dr. Jennifer
Jennifer H. Mieres, MD, FACC, FAHA, MASNC
Dr. Jennifer H. Mieres is one of the leading experts in cardiovascular disease in women. She is on a mission to reignite humanism in healthcare—empowering patients to be partners in their care and advancing more equitable, effective care across the healthcare system.
Jennifer is board certified in nuclear cardiology and is actively involved in cardiovascular healthcare delivery.
She has authored more than 70 scientific publications, has presented her research at over 100 national and International conferences, has authored three books, and has produced four documentaries including Emmy-nominated “A Woman’s Heart,” (PBS, 2003).
When Jennifer started her career there were very few women in the field of cardiology, let alone women of color.
Now, in her roles as Senior Vice President for the Center for Advancing Health for All at Northwell, and Professor of Cardiology and Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra /Northwell, Jennifer has become a thought leader on the topic of humanism in healthcare and recognizing bias in all its forms. Her mission is to empower people to be partners in their care, and to help patients understand that communication is the most vital tool for their health.

A graduate of Bennington College and Boston University School of Medicine, she is a Fellow of the American Heart Association (AHA), the American College of Cardiology (ACC), a Master of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC), and in 2009 served as the first female president of the ASNC. Dr. Mieres is board certified in nuclear cardiology and has been actively involved in clinical cardiovascular research. She chaired the AHA’s 2005 and 2014 writing group on imaging in women and is the lead author of the AHA’s 2014 scientific publication on diagnostic testing for women.
Jennifer is a recipient of numerous media, industry, and healthcare awards and is routinely called upon by the media to comment on women’s heart health, patient partnership, and system-level approaches to improving health outcomes for all.

AHA 2022 Physician of the Year
As an American Heart Association dedicated volunteer for more than 20 years, Mieres is a national spokesperson for Go Red for Women, has served on the national Board of Directors and a wide variety of committees, and authored several AHA scientific publications.
For her exemplary efforts, Mieres was honored as the 2022 Physician of the Year during the AHA's annual National Volunteer Awards virtual ceremony, streamed live for public viewing June 28, 2022.
